Operations

Always competing at the highest level in the coating products market is a priority objective for the Group. For this reason new materials research is flanked by parallel technology and production systems research.

In order to meet this need, a group of professional experts works in Colorificio San Marco with the task of developing production systems around products while considering environmental impact, worker safety and process quality as fundamental.

The quest for improvement continues. Some examples of such transformation are more efficient systems able to raise the quality level of production runs, new warehouses to increase the availability of product ready for rapid distribution worldwide with any means whatsoever, and new areas dedicated to research and training.

Standardising, automating and simplifying are the principles that have inspired the system for automatic relaying of sales orders from one production/distribution site to another, based on nearness or product category criteria, reducing human intervention to a minimum and moving these activities in order to create employment.

In recent years a series of changes in the management of company processes have been implemented for this purpose, resulting in optimised information flows from clients through the entire company with the aim of reducing order processing times as much as possible. Here are some examples:

- order entry via the web and via hand-held devices: product orders can be made by clients themselves through the reserved area of this site, and by agents using the hand-held device with which they are supplied. In this way, orders arrive at the Colorificio’s server in real time and are processed there.

- once validated, clients’ orders are automatically relayed to the production site which manufactures the finished product thanks to its system and product specialisation.

- orders arrive at the warehouse operators’ terminals, they carry out the picking and then confirm the quantities withdrawn, which then automatically generates the shipment documents.

- since 2010 an additional service has been active, allowing every pallet to the identified with a barcode. This code contains all the information required for shipment of the product: quantities, weights etc.

During production also, technology has been extended: each production operator has at his or her disposal a hand-held device used to manage production, from the running of the charts to the automatic unloading of raw materials.

Commercial Dep.

A widespread, effective sales network comprising area managers and agents covers the whole of Italy to ensure the effective exclusive distribution of products and services that satisfy resale needs, targeting professionals or the consumer market.

Strong presence and ongoing market actions are the strengths of the San Marco Group. On-the-field training allows the sales force to work successfully in two ways: understanding client needs and requests, and providing precise data and targeted objectives for new product development. Attendance of the most prestigious building sector fairs in Italy and abroad increases the strength of market penetration.

The Professional Application Centres (CAP) are the preferential interlocutors of the San Marco Group. Present nationwide in Italy, they are specialised in supporting clients from the initial site analysis followed by the technical report, to the defining of the colours and the most suitable application cycles, then on to after-sales support in the event of any problems.

Technical Dep.

The flagship of the San Marco Group is the Research & Development department, in which significant resources are invested every year for experimentation into scientifically state-of-the-art solutions and for the subsequent market launch of products that are environmentally friendly, healthy for people and which can improve their quality of life.

With its laboratories equipped with the absolute latest and most sophisticated instrumentation and a team of professionals undergoing continuing education, always in line with the needs of a sector in constant evolution, the Research & Development department avails itself of prestigious partnerships with universities and leading Italian and international scientific and industrial research centres in the sector, such as:
